WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
Microblading, also known by a variety of names such as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair like strokes is a form of permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments.
This technique is a process that may be used to improve or create eyebrow definition, to cover gaps of lost hair, to extend the eyebrows, or may be used as a full reconstruction if the brows have little/no hair. Each microblading stroke is applied individually, allowing the tattoo artist/beauty therapist control of the shape, color and density of the completed eyebrows.
THE TECHNIQUE OF MICROBLADING:
Microblading is performed by depositing pigment superficially in the upper region of the dermis with the use of a hand tool with attached needles fused together in a curvilinear grouping, and may involve the use of a machine with a specially devised hygienic needle cartridge. Similar to permanent makeup brow treatments using a machine, the Microblading technique involves drawing individual, crisp hair strokes that can be very natural looking.
THE PROCESS OF MICROBLADING:
The treatment is typically a 2 step application process, the initial appointment includes consultation and initial application, the second appointment is 6 weeks to touch up and ensure longevity of the colors used.
The treatment begins with developing the desired shape, then using individual tattoo strokes or 'feathers' in the area to plot the shape and style requested. The color choice is patient specific and is mixed using a natural selection of semi-permanent micro-pigments to complement hair color and skin tone. Varying shades of hypoallergenic micro-pigments react differently with each skin type and fade accordingly, depending on skin regimen, sun exposure, environmental and after care precautions. Immediately post treatment, eyebrows will appear darker than expected, but will fade 50% during the healing process over the following 2 weeks. The 2nd application 6 weeks later includes a touch up to ensure micro-pigments are healing properly and responding well.
WHO IS MICROBLADING FOR?
Microblading is for everyone who shares the same desires of achieving a thick, full shaped, and alluring eyebrows.
Microblading could also be used to improve certain eyebrow shapes such as:
- Sparse eyebrows
- Over-plucked eyebrows
- Incompletely grown eyebrows
- Unsymmetrical eyebrows
- Eyebrows with scars
DOES MICROBLADING HURT?
Even though microblading is a form of tattoo, some microblade needle groupings may contain needles that are extremely fine in diameter in comparison to the needles used in traditional tattooing. The recent advancements in cosmetic tattoo needle technology has also produced extremely fine needles gauges for machine use. Technicians usually use topical anesthetics to limit discomfort and consequently like all forms of cosmetic tattooing. If performed correctly the procedure causes extremely minimal discomfort. Several customers have rated the pain of the procedure from 2-3 on a scale out of 10.
HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?
Microblading lasts between 6 – 18 months if proper aftercare instructions are maintained.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF MICROBLADING?
1. Reduce the amount of time necessary to get ready in the morning.
As every professional woman knows, you have to wake up every morning and “put on your face.” This ritual process of making yourself presentable to the world with makeup takes up a lot of time and can be tiresome. Since Microblading is semi-permanent you won’t need to waste any more time filling in your brows to have them look presentable. All women can benefit from the time saved thanks to microblading.
2. Gives those with skin diseases like alopecia or hair loss secondary to chemo a natural looking brow.
Microblading was originally founded in Asia for cancer patients who had gone through chemotherapy and lost a significant amount of eyebrow hair. Microblading will benefit anyone who is experiencing hair loss or a lack of hair growth in the brows thanks to any disease that may be causing it. The crisp natural looking characteristics of microblading make it very difficult to tell that you’ve even had a procedure done, giving those who would usually have to deal with the unsightly presentation of penciled in brows a much better alternative!
3. Does not smudge or smear off, even with exercise for those with an active lifestyle.
Microblading implants pigments into the first 3 layers of skin. Without having to add any makeup, clients can enjoy any physical activity without the worry of losing the look of their brows. Regular brow makeup wouldn’t make it through a hot yoga session, for example. LFL superstar Tai Emery recently had microblading on her brows at Ivy Laser Salon and loves the fact that she can be on the field playing football without having to worry about her brows being on point!
4. Sessions only take 1 ½ hours.
Imagine, 1 ½ hours of your life in exchange for up to 3 years of worry free brows! You’d spend at least 5 minutes every day on your brows alone. 5×365= 1825 minutes a year!
5. Virtually painless
When you come in for your session the first thing our microblading artist will do is use a strong numbing cream. This cream makes the process virtually pain-free. The only thing clients feel is a “carving” sensation as the pigment is implemented into the skin.
6. Lasts 1-3 years
Microblading lasts 1-3 years based on environmental factors like sun exposure. It’s not permanent, but semi-permanent. It allows you to change the shape of the brow with new trends since only lasts 1-3 years.
7. Pigment does not change color, only loses saturation
Ever seen a tattoo that’s gone from black to green? That wouldn’t happen with microblading. The pigments used in microblading are all organic and specifically made so that they do not change color. They will slowly lose saturation over time, cueing you to come in for a touch-up session!
8. It’s very safe.
Microblading is very safe in the hands of a professional microblading artist. It is minimally invasive and has very little down time!
